3 Areas in the Klang Valley Record Unhealthy API Readings

SHAH ALAM, 13 Mar: Kuala Selangor, Shah Alam, Banting, Port Klang, Petaling Jaya Putrajaya, Batu Muda and Cheras have recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 11am.

The report on the webpage of the Department of Environment (DOE) has found that these areas have recorded API readings exceeding 100, with Port Klang being 164, 161 in Kuala Selangor, 143 in Banting, 116 in Petaling Jaya, 114 in Shah Alam, 131 in Putrajaya, 120 in Batu Muda and 108 in Cheras.

Meanwhile, Sri Aman, Sarawak, has recorded an API reading of 98, while Muar, Johor, is at 88 and 82 for Seri Manjung, Perak.

The DOE categorised API readings at 0-50 as good, 51-100 as moderate, 101-200 as unhealthy, 201-300 as very unhealthy and 301 and above is categorised as dangerous.

According to the website, usually the ozone concentration is high and dominates API readings in some areas around late afternoon or early evening.
