SERDANG, 25 MAY: The Selangor Foundation targets a rise in the number of students eligible to receive scholarships to 5,500 students, to ensure better quality of education is provided to the people in this state.
The foundation is confident in providing better education facilities for the people of Selangor by focusing on lower secondary education.
The efforts are proven when the number of students who received scholarships from the foundation rise from 1,200 in 2010 to 5,000 students in 2013, he added.
“While this number is still small compared to the overall amount of students at the secondary level in Selangor estimated at 932,979 people, I believe the impact of the assistance provided by Selangor Foundation reaches out to the community.
“We also hope that it covers more students in Selangor in the future,” he said at the Education Excellence Award of Selangor Foundation , also attended by Selangor Exco members, Dr Halimah Ali and Dr Daroyah Alwi at University Putra Malaysia (UPM), here.
The event is organized yearly by the Education Department of Selangor Foundation to give recognition and to appreciate the success of students under the scholarship and to hope that they will continue to excel in their education as well as Co curriculum.
About 135 of the students obtained brilliant results in their ‘Lower Secondary Assessment Exam’(PMR), while it was recorded that 98 out of 532 Malaysian Education Certificate(SPM) candidates scored 8A and above in their results.
Meanwhile, Ismail Idris, the General Manager of Selangor Foundation said a program known as the High Performance Student (HIPERS) will be launched together with the Education Department of Selangor (JPNS) by this year.
So far, JPNS and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) has successfully identified up to 10 lower primary schools for the program.
“The main purpose of the Selangor Foundation is to assist these schools to excel in their Primary school Assessment Exam (UPSR) , and then as “feeder” students for the next program under the Selangor Foundation Plan in secondary schools,” he said.
