SHAH ALAM, 30 June: The Chief Minster, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, has agreed to provide an initial allocation of RM27 million to upgrade the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque.

He said that the provisions include the construction of the minarets, the surrounding area and structural repairs, as well as the interior space.

“On behalf of the State Government, we are grateful to the former Imam Besar (high priest) of this mosque, the late Ahmad Mustafa Sidin, who was very active in enlivening the mosque with various programmes.

“Therefore, we want the people to be comfortable with the mosque conditions and consider the mosque as their home, in continuation to that.

“The State Government gives full confidence. Previously, the late Ahmad used to spend most of his time in the mosque. So, we want everyone to be comfortable,” he said while handing bubur lambuk (rice porridge) yesterday.

Abdul Khalid said that the approach was taken to remember the service and efforts of young leaders who have contributed their energy in running the mosque.

In addition, he also informed to solve the problem of about 40 bazaar traders at the mosque area, where business is not allowed for certain reasons.

“I will meet with the Mayor of the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) to discuss the matter. I will also ask him to find an alternative business location for the traders,” he said.

At the same time, 2,400 packets of porridge and dates were distributed to the public for free, in conjunction to the first day of the Ramadan celebration.

This year, 1,200 packets of porridge will be distributed every day to the public for free, starting from the 1 to 27 of the Ramadan month, and it will be distributed after the Asr prayers each day.
