Mastermind of Seri Aman Lake rubbish changed location, refuses to cooperate

PUCHONG, 17 July: The rubbish issue in Seri Aman Lake was thought to have ended; however, the mastermind of the waste reclamation activities has changed location to the bank of Sungai Klang at Kampung Seri Aman Hilir heading to Seri Aman Mas.

There is heaps of garbage, like construction waste, canvas and plastic, even sinks, tiles, including old carpets, cover the river bank until the village street, but the residents there seem to not care.

“Based on information from residents’ complaints, it is understood that the illegal dumping activities have spread to the border of the Sepang Municipal Council (MPS).

“After several proactive measures, including MPSJ enforcement at the waste disposal site at Seri Aman Lake, they moved to another area and the location at the bank of Sungai Klang may be fragments of it,” explained the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) member, Rosharizan Mohd Roslan.

In June, MPSJ began cleaning the Seri Aman Lake Recreation Park which was previously severely polluted due to the illegal dumping of garbage.

Selangor Kini understands that the mastermind of the reclamation at the 12 acre lake was for the purpose of development, after the land at the lake was moved by certain quarters.

Selangor Kini and MPSJ are conducting follow-up survey, however the efforts to approach the riverbank near Kampung Seri Aman Hilir was prevented by a group of young men with walkie-talkies.

“May I know why you are taking pictures of this area? From where and how long have you been monitoring this place?” asked a young man in his early 30’s who claimed that he was the supervisor of the river embankment project from the appointed contractor.

“The route by the river has eroded and we were ordered to conduct river embankment to ensure that the erosion does not destroy the road,” he claimed.

The man’s claim was however not confirmed by MPSJ and Selangor Kini left the area before any unwanted incident took place.

“We will investigate whether it is taking place in the area under the supervision of MPSJ or the Sepang Municipal Council (MPS). If the illegal waste dumping is true, stern action will be taken,” he said.
