RM1.088 million to build Maahad Tahfiz, target to establish in each district

SHAH ALAM, 21 Jluly: A total of RM1.088 million was donated by the Selangor Government to the Association of Tahfiz al-Quran Institutions of Selangor (PITAS) for the development of Maahad Tahfiz schools in the state.

The Executive Councillor in charge of Education, Higher Learning and Human Capital Development, Dr Halimah Ali, said that the State Government always encouraged the young people to read and memorise the Quran, in line with the vision of making Selangor a state welfare, desirable, successful and prosperous state.

She said that the Selangor Government is also currently in the process of ensuring that there is at least one Maahad Tahfiz Science Integrated school in every district in the state conducted by the Selangor Religious Islamic Department (Jais).

“In 2008, we established the Maahad Tahfiz Science Integrated School in Jugra and now, Selangor has three Maahad Tahfiz and plans to add more.

“The state government is honoured to join PITAS to expand and champion as many Selangor children as possible to reac the Quran well because it is a source of knowledge for everything,” she said.

She said this when inaugurating the right Selangor Huffaz Day celebration at the State Mosque.

At the event, over 300 Tahfiz students from across the Selangor read holy verses from the Quran from memory.

In the meantime, Halimah said that students who have graduated from Tahfiz schools are given the opportunity to participate in the fast track programme organised by the Selangor Islamic Education Foundation (YAPIS) and the University of Selangor (Unisel).

She said that this concept was created to provide encouragement to Tahfiz students to build their careers upon completion of their studies at their respective schools.

“We have heard the complaints of children who ask after memorising, where where do they go, how to build their careers.

“So in 2010, we started a concept where the Unisel-Yapis Fast Track programme was created to provide opportunities to Tahfiz students who have finished their career choice,” she added.
