SHAH ALAM, 16 AUGUST: Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MDKL) is not facing serious waste issues as waste collection is smooth and there is less complaints from the residents.

A spokesperson for MDKL informed Selangor Kini, the local municipal council has been receiving less than 20 complaints monthly from the residents.

“MDKL has appointed seven different contract companies for domestic waste collection. For solid waste and waste from orchards, it is collected by MDKL workers using four lorries and a JCB tractor.”

“Gotong-royong programmes are organized and is focused on cleaning mass waste, illegal dumping, bushes and other issues related to the cleanliness of their surroundings,” he said.

MDKL always organized “gotong-royong” among residents, local councilors, and other Non-government organizations (NGO) at selected areas to help combat the dengue fever disease.

He also said, the waste collection area for solid waste, illegal waste and orchard waste has potentials to spread aedes mosquitoes. Hence,MDKL has formed a ‘Waste Gang’ unit on the 1st of September 2012, where these workers are in charge to clean the waste collection area.

“The residents are given information regarding dangers of dengue and ways to prevent it, during ‘gotong-royong’ programmes and also talks in schools,” he said.
