SHAH ALAM, 22 Feb: The Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) is starting the cloud seeding process around the Sungai Selangor Dam to increase the capacity of the reservoir, which is now at 78.93 percent.

The Director of LUAS, Md Khairi Selamat, said that he is always ready to face any possible water crisis in the Klang Valley, following the Equinox phenomenon that will cause hot weather starting next week until early April.

The Sungai Selangor Dam supplies about 60 percent of treated water to Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor.

Apart from the Sungai Selangor Dam, the state has seven dams; the Batu Dam, the Langat Dam, the Semenyih Dam, the Klang Gates Dam, the Sungai Tinggi Dam, the Tasik Subang Dam and a water retention pond at Sungai Labu, Sepang.

In February last year, a total of 6.7 million people in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya had to face water rationing starting February 27 until April 30 in stages.

This was because several major dams in the state experienced a decline in reservoir levels.
