The water level of dams in Selangor under control

SHAH ALAM, 14 Mar: The water level at most dams in Selangor are still under control despite a decline compared to last week.

At 8 o’clock this morning, the level at the Sungai Langat dam recorded a decline of 2.68 percent, 91.96 percent compared to last week (94.64 percent).

The Batu dam also declined by 1.99 percent (87.08) compared to last week, 89.07 percent, while the Klang Gates also declined by 2.09 percent (84.70) compared to 86.79 percent.

Meanwhile, Sungai Selangor which supplies 60 percent of water to the Klang Valley declined from 75.05 percent to 73.89 percent, a decline of 1.16 percent.

In addition, the water level at the Tasik Subang dam recorded the highest amount with an increase to 100 percent compared to last week, 97.51 percent, followed by Semenyih at 95.42 percent.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, previously said that the water level at seven dams in Selangor are under control and adequate to meet the current needs of the people in the state.

The levels show higher capacity compared to the same period last year.

“For example, on March 4 last year, the Sungai Selangor dam recorded a reading of 44.84 percent compared to today, 75.05 percent.

“We also found that the water consumption per capita in the state is the highest at 235 litres per day and I am reminding consumers to reduce water consumption to maintain the continuity of the water supply,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) has begun the cloud seeding process around the Sungai Selangor dam to increase the capacity of the reservoir, which is not at 78.93 percent.

LUAS Director, Md Khairi Selamat, said that they are always ready to face any possible water crisis in the Klang Valley due to the equinox phenomenon that will bring about hot weather starting next week until early April.
