RM217,000 awaits cyber games fans

SHAH ALAM, 30 Apr: Selangor will be meeting the demands of online gaming enthusiasts and help them generate income, in addition to changing the perception that it is a waste of time and money.

The Exco for the Standing Committee on Youth and Sports Development, Amirudin Shari, said that the state government will be organising the International Selangor Cyber Games (ISCG) at The Strands Mall, Kota Damansara, from May 9 to 10, in line with the initiative.

“In Malaysian and Selangor, we have good e-sports players, so I feel that there is a need to change the perception that this games are a waste of time and money.

“We will meet the demands of youth interested in this sport. At the same time, we will continue to encourage youths to be involved in outdoor sports,” he said during the launch of the ISCG at the Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC) today.

He said that the second time of the competition’s organisation will be done on a bigger scale, involving nearly 12,000 participants and 2,343 teams.

He said that Selangor is also targeting 1,267 participants with a total of 10,000 visitors, meanwhile the total prize offered increased to RM217,000.

“The competition this time also attracted the participation of eight countries, namely China, Indonesia, Singapore, Korea, the Philippines, Brunei, Thailand and Malaysia,” he said.

The programme involves eight events: International MPGL Dota 2, DOT Arena, Asian Cyber Games DOTA 2, Asian Cyber Games Counter Strike Global Offensive (CSGO), FIFA15 (PS4), F1 Racing Simulator and Cosplay.
