SHAH ALAM, 4 May: The Selangor government wants to make mosques across the state as the heart of development through the organisation of knowledge programmes for the purpose of governance.

The Exco for Islamic Religion, Malay Customs, Rural Development and Traditional Villages, Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that it is to ensure that the people are supplied with knowledgeable programmes that are good.

He said that this is also in line with the desire to make mosques in Selangor transformation centres for the people.

“We do not want mosques to be used for religious purposes only, instead knowledgeable programmes related to religion will also be held for the benefit of the people.

“Programmes are necessary for the community to be aware that mosques are where Allah’s grace comes from and we will take that blessings to the hereafter,” he told Selangor Kini.

Ahmad Yunus said that the effort is intensified through the implementation of the Kampungku Kesayanganku programme to make mosques a focus.

He said that this programme will be continued for the development of the Muslim community so that it can be done optimally.

“Since 2008, Pakatan Rakyat (PR) has prioritised the social development of mosques for the development of the community.

“Not to boast, but we cannot deny that the congregation at mosques have increased with community involvement,” he said.

The Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque in Shah Alam in enlivened with various knowledge-based events since PR took over the administration of Selangor in 2008.

The PAS Deputy President, Mohamad Sabu, said that it was different during the administration of Barisan Nasional (BN) when mosques in Selangor were government by Umno’s political interests.
