Wan Azizah: The people, together with PR, topple BN

PERMATANG PAUH, 8 May: The PKR President, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, expressed gratitude for Pakatan Rakyat’s victory of retaining the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat.

For her, it is the victory of the people who are pressured by the administration of the Barisan Nasional government as a result of abuse of power and leakages.

“I am competing here not for the position, but to fight against oppression and injustice.

“Therefore, I am proud that Permatang Pauh understands, votes and made this decision (in favour of PR),” she said when speaking at Kubang Semang last night.

She said this after the declaration of her victory in the Permatang Pauh by-election.

Wan Azizah was elected as the Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament when she received 30,316 votes, defeating the BN candidate, Suhaimi Sabudin (21,475), Azman Shah Othman (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) (101), and Salleh Ishak (Independent) (367) with a majority of 8,841.

She said that the people, especially the voters in this parliamentary constituency, expressed their dissatisfaction with BN who implemented several programmes, including the goods and services tax (GST), in addition to imprisoning Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Not because he was guilty, because he was mistreated. We are on the outside, he is inside. Our prayers is for his to be strong,” she said.

She said that the struggle to uphold justice will be continued and PR will continue to stand strong in the interest of the people.

“Continue the struggle to uphold justice in front of the unjust ruler. This is a jihad for us,” she said.
