CM: Prepare a SELCAT for water restructuring

SHAH ALAM, 20 Aug: The state government is ready and willing to have a Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (SELCAT) for the issue of the water industry restructuring.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, received this after Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim (Independent – Port Klang) asked the state government to disclose facts on his statement in increasing water tariff rates to 18 percent.

“The state government is open to forming a SELCAT. It is just that we cannot determine what we are to discuss.

“That is up to the SELCAT,” he said during the State Assembly Session (DNS) today.

Mohamed Azmin said that the state government is always ready at any time to provide a statement.

“We support any effort for the truth so that the people are informed. There is nothing to hide,” he said.

Previously, Abdul Khalid asked the state government’s stance in the payment to the concessionaires for the acquisition of the water industry which will cause revenue to be affected, thus resulting in a tariff increase.

Mohamed Azmin later confirmed that the state reserve is not for the water restructuring and is only used for development purposes.

He said that the increase in water tariff rates was actually submitted by Abdul Khalid when he was the Chief Minister.
