Those spreading slander about Raja Muda should be responsible

SUBANG, 3 Oct: Social media users need to be careful and responsible with anything they spread because it could be defamation against innocent individuals.

The Selangor State Assembly Speaker, Hannah Yeoh, said that those reading should also ensure the validity of information received and to not continue to punish and make their own assumptions.

“Facebook users or bloggers should check in advance and obtain concrete evidence before writing or disseminating such information to the public.

“Everything reported and shared on social sites have a big impact, in fact it can ruin the reputation of those involved,” she told Selangor Kini today.

She said this when asked to comment on the statement by the former Chief Minister of Malacca, Tan Sri Rahum Tamby Chik, who claimed that the Selangor Raja Muda, Tengku Amir Shah, converted religion, causing dissatisfaction recently.

“Social media should be used as a platform to share positive and beneficial information to the people,” said Hannah.

Following the statement, the Selangor Royal Council denied the allegations and expressed regret and condemned the act as defamation, sedition and malicious.
