Haze: Schools in Selangor & several other states ordered to close on October 19

KUALA LUMPUR, 18 Oct: All schools in Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Putrajaya, Selangor, the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Tawau, Kuching and Samarahan will be closed tomorrow due to the increase in the Air Pollution Index (API) readings in these areas.

This is according to the Minister of Education, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, taken from his Facebook page today.

However, he said that the Malaysian Religious Higher Certification Examinations (STAM) and Vocational Colleges will continue under the OPS Topeng (mask operations).

As of 6 pm today, two other areas, Tanjung Malim and Cheras, recorded unhealthy API readings, making it a total of 16 areas that are in unhealthy conditions.

According to the Department of Environment (DOE), the API readings for Tanjung Malim, Perak, is at 102, while it is at 105 in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.

14 areas are still at unhealthy levels since 2 pm. These areas are Bandaraya Melaka (122) and Bukit Rambai (116), Melaka; Nilai (120), Port Dickson (111) and Seremban (121), Negeri Sembilan; Tawau (135), Sabah; Kuching (101) and Samarahan (110), Sarawak; Banting (124), Port Klang (116), Petaling Jaya (110) and Shah Alam (111), Selangor; Batu Muda (121), Kuala Lumpur; and Putrajaya (116).
