SHAH ALAM, July 31: The Selangor State Government today decided to postpone sending 95 students to Egypt until the security situation is guaranteed.

The State Government also decided to place the students involved who are studying religion at the Selangor Islamic University College (KUIS) as an alternative option.

The State Government also offered placements to medical students to pursue fundamental sciences at the Selangor University (Unisel).

“The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) which previously agreed to sponsor them to Egypt has been asked to continue their sponsorship at the new placement,” he said.

This was according to the Executive Councillor in charge of the Selangor State Education, Higher Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Halimah Ali in a press conference after chairing the State Government Exco Meeting at the State Secretariat Building (SUK) this afternoon.

The State Government also asked for the parents and those involved to be patient and pray that the situation in Egypt will recover in the near future.

“The State Government will continue to monitor and oversee the latest developments from time to time, especially related to the safety of Selangor students in Egypt,” added Dr Halimah.

The Egyptian President, Dr Mohamed Morsi who was elected by the people was ousted by the Egyptian army in a coup recently.

The move received objection from millions of Egyptians by holding mass demonstrations.

The situation grew tense when the military recently shot and killed over 100 protesters thus fuelling an unsafe situation in the country.
