SHAH ALAM, 5 Aug: The Malaysian Muslim Youth Movement (ABIM) will continue to launch information campaigns aggressively to open the eyes of the world on the oppression by the Chinese government against the Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang.
Its Vice President, Mohammad Raimi Ab Rahim, said that it will be increased with the latest attack in the region which claimed nearly 100 lives, the majority consisting of those of the Uyghur ethnicity.
He said that ABIM will also take the opportunity to provide information on the Palestine issue which is also a concern for Muslims around the world, in addition to Xinjiang.
“We expect the information process to take place more aggressively after this Ramadan, especially with the latest attack, because the situation there has been worsening.
“Although our world is more focused on Palestine, but at the same time, the Muslim community in Malaysia should not forget the campaign to help the community in Xinjiang and Uyghur,” he told Selangor Kini.
Raimi said that cooperation with international bodies like in Turkey and Europe is still on track and they are waiting for the next step to give a decisive statement regarding the prosecution towards the Muslim minority.
He said that at the moment, they have sent protests and will continue to protest and provide information to the people.
“Due to the relatively restricted information there, we are waiting for the next move to issue a decisive statement on what would the Uyghur community worldwide and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) do to help them.
“We are also asking mosques and suraus that want information to contact ABIM and they will be provided clarification,” he said.
ABIM, in collaboration with Global Peace Mission Malaysia (GPM) has also launched a Caring Fund to help the Uyghur ethnicity and the world.
The Uyghur ethnicity are not allowed to practice teachings of Islam where government employees and children below the age of 18 are prohibited from going to mosques for congregational prayers, from wearing the hijab (veil) and keeping beards.
In addition to that, they are also prohibited from fasting as justification to maintain the health and productivity of workers.
