KEPONG, 22 May: PKR urges the Umno-BN Government to stop intimidating the people who oppose the 13th General Election results and instead understand their needs of wanting the electoral system to be corrected.
PKR Vice-President, Sivarasa Rasiah also did not rule out the possibility that there will be more arrests carried out by the Umno-BN Government to scare the people and restrict the movement demanding for a transparent electoral system.
“BN needs to understand that the people, especially the young people will continue to oppose because they are convinced that the principles of upholding justice is right.
“This movement will continue to grow until BN is overthrown and a truly democratic and transparent government is established in Malaysia,” stressed Sivarasa.
“My advice, try to understand the needs of these young people, accept criticism and correct the electoral system which is the cause.
“Stop diverting the people’s attention from real issues such as arresting people like the arrest of Adam Adli,” Sivarasa added when met in front of the Jinjang police station here yesterday.
An assembly was held yesterday to show solidarity for student activist, Adam Adli who was remanded since Saturday under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.
He was arrested because of his speech at a forum organised by Youth Solidarity Malaysia at the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall on 13 May.
Adam allegedly urged the public to march the streets to protest against the 13th General Election (GE-13) results.
The assembly yesterday was also joined by other Pakatan leaders including PKR President, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah and the Chairman of the Socialist Party of Malaysia, Dr Nasir Hashim.
“Never forget the spirit of the young people, as portrayed by Adam Adli, who carry the torch of the struggle, they want a glorious future, they want a better country.
“Hopefully this torch will illuminate the hearts of all, including those who are blind and deaf,” said Wan Azizah in front of over 200 attendees.
Dr Nasir Hashim in his speech is of the opinion that the arrest of Adam is a move which is seen as unfair and biased.
“Why are more severe speeches issued by (Malay supremacy activist) Ibrahim Ali, Zulkifli Nordin and a former judge (Datuk Mohd Noor Abdullah) not subject to any action?” asked the former Kota Damansara Assemblyman.
