Anthony Loke Charged: Umno-BN Practices Selective Prosecution

KUALA LUMPUR, July 18: Leaders of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) once again claim that the Umno-BN Federal Government practices selective prosecution when Pakatan leaders are brought to court but Umno-BN leaders suspected of involvement in corruption are left out.

This time, Pakatan said that the Seremban Member of Parliament, Anthony Loke Siew Fook was charged in court on 24 July under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 (PAA2012) for organising a rally in Negeri Sembilan.

However, according to the MP for Rasah, Teo Kok Seong, the Federal Government took a different attitude towards the Chief Minister of Negeri Sembilan, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan, who has been investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“The Chief Minister of Negeri Semblian, Mohd Hassan, was involved in a case where RM10 million was transferred to London three years ago and this matter has been brought to Parliament.

“When asked about the status of the investigation, the answer was that it has been completed and the MACC has sent a report to the Attorney General but there has been no action so far. Mohd Hassan remains as Chief Minister,” he said in a press conference at Parliament.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Penang, Lim Guan Eng said, although there have not been any commotion at rallies organised by Pakatan, however action have been imposed on Pakatan leaders.

“We are disappointed and not satisfied with this matter. The PAA2012 allows peaceful assemblies to be carried out across the country and this is enshrined in the charter of human rights.

“Although the assemblies were conducted peacefully, action was still taken against PR leaders. It is obvious that selective prosecution has been a problem to PR.”
