SHAH ALAM, July 23: The coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0), strongly condemns Barisan Nasional (BN) for fishing for votes by using public funds in the Kuala Besut By-Elections.
BN allegedly offered allocations totaling to RM337 million on the tenth day of the campaign.
With a total of 17,679 registered voters, this means each vote is worth over RM19,000; if every promise given by the Federal Government and the Terengganu State Government is fulfilled.
“Bersih also does not rule out the possibility of a leap in this amount in the last three days of the campaign before the polling day on 24 July.
“The practice of fishing for votes by abusing public funds is not only against election ethics, but it also shows an ad-hoc development planning driven by, purely, political interests,” said that Bersih 2.0 Steering Committee in a media statement.
In relation to that, Bersih 2.0 urged voters of Kuala Besut to reject corruption and the dirty effort of fishing for votes because the people are actually entitled to receive healthy development funds.
“To ensure a clean election, we also urge all Kuala Besut voters, either living there or elsewhere, to vote to prevent attempts of impersonation by phantom voters or other parties to vote for them,” he added.
Federal Government agencies allegedly involved in the campaign this time are, the Prime Minister’s Department, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Terengganu State Government and Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhan (SPNB).
Throughout the campaign, a total of nine projects were promised by BN, including the deepening of Sungai Besut worth RM250 million, the construction of a four-storey apartment building at Kampung Lay Out worth RM10 million, the constriction of the Alor Peroi Tok Saboh Secondary School worth RM28 million and a RM12 million floating mosque project.
Recently, the government also announced the Lowvier Dam construction project worth RM35 million for farmers, especially for rice cultivation at Pengkalan Nangka.
