KUALA LANGAT, July 16: The Selangor Government will be the first state to broadcast live meetings of Local Authorities (PBT) at the district level if the live broadcast of PBT meetings receives positive feedback.

The Executive Councillor for Local Government, Studies and Research, Datuk Teng Chang Kim said that the State Government is also ready to channel funds to local authorities that lack financial means, such as those in rural areas, for the success of the move.

As previously reported, the objective of the live broadcast if so that the public can obtain information about the work and development of their respective local authorities.

“If there are financial problems, we can help with the condition that we are sure that it is worthwhile to do so.

“We want to see how the implementation in cities and municipal levels go first,” said Teng.

He said this during a press conference during a working visit to the Kuala Langat District Council (MDKL) today.

According to Chang Kim, most of the district local authorities are in rural areas with most of the people using moderate internet services.

To date, eight local authorities, with the majority of them being in urban and suburban areas, have been ordered to broadcast their meetings live.

The local authorities involved are; the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ), and the Klang Municipal Council (MPK).

Also involved; the Ampang Municipal Council (MPAJ), the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS), the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) and the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSp).

On a different issue, Chang Kim said that the community bus programme will also be extended to the district level after evaluating the effectiveness at municipal and city levels.

Last week, Selangorkini reported that eight local authorities, in cities and suburbs, are fine-tuning plans to provide the community bus service.

All municipal and city local authorities are submitting proposals for the bus service effort to the State Government to be evaluated and scrutinised.
