PORT KLANG, August 4: The RM100 shopping coupon distribution under the Jom Shopping (Let’s Go Shopping) Programme in conjunction with festive seasons will be streamlined to allow more of the less fortunate to benefit from this programme.

According to the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, the programme will be further extended to include the Chinese New Year and Deepavali celebrations and this programme will be an annual programme where the allocation will be included in the annual budget of the State Government.

At this time, the State Government has allocated a total of 500 recipients at every of the 56 constituencies in Selangor.
Today, at the Econsave Supermarket here at Pandamaran, Port Klang, a total of 200 underprivileged participants took part in the second phase of the Jom Shopping programme in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations for the Port Klang constituency.
ON July 27, 300 participants took part in the first phase of the same programme.
When met by TVSelangor, several participants said that the programme helped the less fortunate a lot in their preparations to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“This assistance really does help us ease the burden of our spending,” said Norlela Omar, 37, from Pulau Indah.
Meanwhile, Yassin Shamsuddin, 69, from Kampung Telok Gong said that the assistance from the Raya Jom Shopping Assistance Programme received proves the earnestness of the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Government in realising the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (the People’s Economy) slogan despite administering Selangor for only five years.
Shamsuddin also said that previously he was also a recipient of the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) only after Umno-BN governed the country for 54 years.
He also considers the development as a healthy competition between the State Government and the Federal Government in providing various assistance to the people of Selangor.
