Selangor CM Targets 40 Percent Increase in Public Transportation Users

SHAH ALAM, August 8: The Selangor Government aims to increase the use of public transportation among the people of this state up to 40 percent compared to the five percent at present.

Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said that the state government is working with the Federal Government to solve the growing problem of public transportation which is becoming serious every day.

“The people of Selangor will join us in an effort to find ways to solve the transport density.

“We will work with the Central Government to determine the increase of the use of public services by taking into account several things,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after attending the Open House organised by the State Government at the Selangor State Secretariat Square here today, after performing the Aidilfitri prayers at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque with the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Among the early measures that will be taken, Abdul Khalid said that the State Government will focus on providing more bus lanes to carry more passengers.

Previously, he expressed a desire to establish a special committee to assist the Federal Government in improving the quality of public transport services in the country.

He will personally lead the committee to be set up and the committee will include state executive councillors as well as the Selangor Town and County Planning Unit.
