PETALING JAYA, 11 Dec: The residents of Petaling Utama were satisfied when the dialogue held achieved a temporary solution to the issue of the closure of Jalan PJS 1/52 which connects Petaling Utama and Kanagapura Gardens yesterday.

The temporary solution was reached in a dialogue between the residents of the two housing areas and the Assemblyman of Taman Medan, Haniza Talha, the Assemblyman of Bukit Gasing, Rajiv Rishyakaran and the representative of the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).

The residents agreed that Jalan PJS 1/52 will not be closed until Haniza and Rajiv holds discussions with the traffic police and highway operators, New Pantai Expressway (NPE) in the near future.

Haniza said that the results of the discussion with the residents, police and NPE will be brought to the MBPJ Council meeting in January.

“Supposedly, such discussions are held before a decision is made so that we can hear the views from both sides, but there was no discussion and straightaway, they decided to close the road.

“It caused the people to feel neglected because they have been using this route for a long time, since it was still a squatting village. The route has become prolonged and incurred a cost since the highway was constructed.

“For residents with a low-income, all factors need to to be thought of because it affects them and their families,” she said after attending the dialogue which was attended by nearly 50 local residents.

Meanwhile, Rajiv hopes that a decision reached in the MBPJ Council meeting will satisfy all parties.

“The residents’ representatives and I will hold a census of the number of houses in Taman Kanagapuram which are occupied,” he said.

The Joint Management Body (JMB) Chairman of Petaling Utama Block C and D, S.Sendereprakasam, said that the residents agreed to cancel the demonstration to protest the closure of the road as planned prior to this.

“We are satisfied with the results of the discussion and there is no need to demonstrate. We do not like holding demonstrations, but we were going to do it if there was no other way.

“If this path is closed, we have to travel over five kilometres, on congested roads in the morning, compared to less than a kilometre,” he said.

He said that Jalan PJS 1/52 is currently often used as a main road for most residents to send their children to school and for them to go to work.

Previously, the residents of Petaling Utama planned to hold a demonstration to protest against the decision to close Jalan PJS 1/52 starting from 12 December.
