The Chairman of the Section 6 Modern Market Vendor’s Association, Captain (Rtd) Ismail Khan Kamarudin, said that the lack of parking causes visitors to return home or not patron the market.

He said that so far, the market has about 100 parking lots, but because there are many visitors, the available parking is not enough.

“Some patrons have to park their cars along the street and bear the risk of being issued summons by the authorities.

“Some people are forced to return home after seeing there is no parking. We do not want this to happen again. Pity the vendors whose items are not sold and they have to bear losses,” he said when met by Selangor Kini at the market.

In addition, he said, the parking lots provided by the authorities are not up to the standard as the lots are narrow and it makes it difficult for patrons to open the doors of their vehicles.

“If the car is small, it is fine. But if it is a large vehicle, they definitely are forced to take two lots to park their cars.

“I have received many complaints and I have brought this issue to MBSA,” he said.

Ismail said that the duct system at the fish vendor’s area should be given attention because after it connects to the fish area, the water flows out to the street because the existing duct is not channelled to the drain but the tarred road.

“This causes a foul odour, it is slippery and the tarred road is filled with potholes. So we want MBSA to provide a good duct system for the safety of vendors.

“Vendors also complain a lot when the lights of the market are turned off as early as 8am. They have asked for it to be extended to 11am because before that time, the market is still in darkness,” he said.
