SHAH ALAM, Feb 6th: Pakatan Rakyat (PR)’s continuous call for a bi-partisan dialogue to discuss national issues is not a precursor to the formation of a united government.
Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that if that were the case, he would not go to Selangor to stand for a by-election in Kajang for the seat of Member of the Legislative Assembly (DUN).
“Parameters (the dialogue) are very clear, to vouch for the constitution and give people confidence based on this
assurance.”
“It will include racial, religious, economic, criminal, corruption but not more than that,” he said in an excerpt from MalaysiaKini.
Anwar said this will be the last goal since Pakatan first offered to have a national consensus with BN last August.
In confirmation of a public speculation, he explained that PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution, acted as a go-between to deliver the message in a private meeting of BN representatives including the Home Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“Yes, there was a meeting between Saifuddin and Zahid, but only to raise this issue since BN was unsure if this was to be taken seriously or treated as another political gimmick,” he said.
He also added that in a PR Leader’s Council, they have studied the matter of the national consensus and had ‘lengthy private discussions’ with DAP Adviser Lim Kit Siang, DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng, PAS President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and PAS Vice President Mohamad Sabu.
The PR Leadership Council has taken a stand to continue calls for dialogue, knowing full well that BN will only refuse and that certain UMNO factions are completely against it.
