SHAH ALAM, 6 Aug: The British Government’s policy to support Israel in the Gaza conflict has led to a senior minister resigning yesterday.
Syeeda Warsi, who is a Senior Minister in the British Foreign Ministry, said that she made the decision because she could no longer support the biased British policy.
Through Twitter, Warsi disclosed that the reason she resigned is closely related to the conflict in Gaza, which has now killed nearly 2,000 Palestinians, including children.
“With deep regret I have this morning written to the Prime Minister and tendered my resignation. I can no longer support Government’s policy on Gaza,” she said.
The British Government under Prime Minister David Cameron is now debating the strong criticism from the opposition party, the Labour Party, on their refusal to denounce Israel’s infiltration of Gaza, including the killing done by the Israeli regime.
Britain previously repeated called for a ceasefire in Gaza. The latest, Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said that the situation in Gaza is intolerable.
Britain’s stand was clearly disappointing that Warsi openly expressed unhappiness with Cameron’s failure before finally resigning.
Warsi is the first woman and Muslim to serve in the cabinet after becoming the Chairman of the Conservative Party by Cameron after the 2010 general election.
