“This is the beginning. After this, we will intensify other sports competitions in promoting a healthy lifestyle.

“Unlike before, sepak takraw is less adored. Therefore, we are organising this tournament, which among others, to promote this traditional sport among the youth,” she said.

She said this when met by Selangor Kini after launching the Kajang Assemblyman’s Sepak Takraw Cup Championship at Komplex Penghulu in Kampung Batu 10.

At least 35 teams are taking part in the knockout round to snatch the trophy and the cash prize of RM500 for the first place winner.

Meanwhile, the second place winner will take home a cash prize of RM300, RM200 for third place and RM100 for fourth place, including medals.

Elaborating, Wan Azizah said that she is trying to develop sport facilities in the area.

This is because public sports facilities in Kajang Utara has not been developed and the residents in the area need to leave the area for sports.

“In our effort, we invite the people to be healthy and participate in sports. We also need to ensure that sporting facilities are available.

“I will extend this requirement to the Youth and Sports Exco to build a sports facility in this area,” she said.
