28 SJKT receives assistance of RM830,000

SUBANG JAYA, 12 Dec: Vernacular schools that currently exist needs to be maintained without the need to set up a single stream school.

The Exco for Education, Human Capital Development, Science and Technology and Innovation, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, said that through schooling that uses the mother tongue, it allows the children to learn despite challenges from the point of racial unity.

“I do not agree with the view that says that we only need one (type of) school in Malaysia.

“I reject the view because I do not deny that there are challenges in terms of unity when we have national-type schools, but that is our heritage,” he said when speaking at the Selangor State Government Schools Education Assistance Programme Phase 3 for 2014.

He said that Science and Mathematics in English is being resisted against because it has a negative impact on our students, and as a result, the federal government changed the policy themselves.

At the event, Nik Nazmi presented the contribution from the Selangor government totalling RM830,000 to 28 schools.

He explained that there are 97 Tamil vernacular schools (SJKT) in Selangor and that they are as important as other schools in building human capital.

Since 2009, the Selangor government has allocated RM20 million for Tamil vernacular schools (SJKT).

Also present was the Kelana Jaya Member of Parliament, Wong Chen, and the Education Unit Assistant Secretary, Siti Syazwani Abdul Latif.
