CM: Name the new DNS Opposition Leader before March 2015

SHAH ALAM, 15 Dec: The state government has asked the Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) to be more mature in the issue of vacating the role of the Opposition Leader in the Selangor State Assembly (DNS).

The Chief Minster, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the role of the Opposition Leader is important to ensure that the concept of check and balance is implemented in the democratic process.

He said that if BN remains stubborn, it will not only highlight their disrespect of the democratic process, but in fact that the Selangor BN has failed to provide the best services to the people.

“It is all up to the Selangor BN (to appoint or not) but they have to make the best decision for the state and to not make this an issue to be politicised (because) it involves the interests of the people.

“They need to decide on an Opposition Leader before the next session (expected to take place in March 2015),” he said when met by reporters at the Return to School Contribution Ceremony organised by the Selangor Women’s Welfare and Charity Organisation (Pekawanis) at the Megawati Hall yesterday.

On December 8, the Sungai Burong Assemblyman, Datuk Mohd Shamsudin Lias, resigned as the DNS Opposition Leader and returned the official car after he refused the appointment as the Chairman of the State Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

Until now, the name of the new Opposition Leader has yet to be named.

“In addition to the role of the Opposition Leader, we also need some Assemblymen from them (BN) to take up roles in the Select Committee,” he said.

On December 11, the Selangor Umno Chairman, Datuk Seri Noh Omar, in a reaction said that his will review the need of the role of the Opposition Leader as the PAC Chairman first through the automatic appointment through the Standing Order 68 (1).
