SHAH ALAM, 19 Jan: Periodic inspections are always carried out to monitor unlicensed premises and suspicious activities, including prostitution.

The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Corporate Deputy Director, Shahrin Ahmad, said that inspections are conducted by the department of licensing and enforcement is carried according to the stipulated schedule.

He said that MBSA is always ready to cooperate with other agencies in monitoring immoral and illegal activities.

“MBSA will take stern action, including revoking licenses and blacklisting the owners of the premises involved.

“In line with the state government’s stand, MBSA will never compromise with such activities,” he told Selangor Kini.

Recently, a pro-Umno newspaper claimed that Selangor is overgrown with brothels with over 2,000 premises under the guise of massage parlors and other business names.

However, the Exco for Local Government, Ean Yong Hian Wah, doubts the statistics and stressed that monitoring and enforcement is always being carried out by local authorities.

Meanwhile, the Exco for Islamic Affairs, Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that the state government is ready to cooperate with the federal government to curb such immoral activities.

“The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) also conducts monitoring and enforcement, especially involving Muslims.

“JAIS, in particular, welcomes efforts and cooperation in this matter,” he said.
