Sultan: Restore the glory of football & realise the city of art

SHAH ALAM, 30 Mar: Excellence in sports, particularly football, should be upheld as the sport can be used as a platform to unite the people of all races.

The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, said that although effort is being carried out to restore the glory of the Selangor football team’s glory, the effort should be enhanced with more earnestness.

“About 70% of Shah Alam’s population consists of the younger generation. The young people have special tastes like sports, recreation, music and art.

“Shah Alam as a “Youth City’ is in line with the young people’s aspirations and will make the capital of Selangor more vibrant and dynamic,” said the Sultan.

The Sultan said this during the Opening Ceremony of the Third Session of the 13th Selangor State Assembly (DNS) 2015 today.

The Sultan said that other than sports, Selangor also has a wealth of historical treasures and cultural heritage which should be appreciated by the people.

“Efforts to improve and enhance the role of museums is also necessary so that the people can know and appreciate the history and cultural traditions of the state.

“I believe that the pledge to make Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya “Art Cities” can enrich existing art and culture and cause these two cities to emerge as cosmopolitan cities in this region,” added the Sultan.
