Hold an emergency session if confident that Najib is innocent

SHAH ALAM, 11 Sept: The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, has been urged to hold an emergency session in Parliament to defend himself if his is innocent.

The Klang MP, Charles Santiago, said that this can be done if Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders urged the Prime Minister to take this step.

He said that other MPs have no power as the existing regulations are clearly in favour of the Prime Minister, who is facing controversy.

“Legal experts must think about how to take Najib to court or discuss in parliament because many complaints have been received until today.

“Najib’s reason is unacceptable, both among Umno leaders of ordinary citizens.

“So, it is better if they urge the Prime Minister to table a motion for an emergency session or a vote of no confidence to clear his name,” he told Selangor Kini.

According to Charles, Najib needs to clear his name around the world following the controversy that has shaken investor confidence in entering Malaysia.

He said that the situation also has a great impact on the Malaysian economy that is plunging every day, in addition to the devaluation of the ringgit.

“Many foreign investors are afraid to invest after Najib was implicated in controversy, in fact investigation into the matter is starting to be conducted overseas.

“If this continues, it will affect Malaysia for a long time, so Najib must do something,” he said.

Prior to this, leaders from the opposition called for an emergency Parliament session to allow Najib, who is also the Finance Minister, to explain the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue.

However, the action, according to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, is only allowed if the proposal is submitted by the Prime Minister.

He said that there is no provision in the Standing Orders that mention if an MP can submit a motion of no confidence against the Prime Minister.
