RM1.5 million allocated to help kidney patients

PETALING JAYA, 1 Oct: At least 20 dialysis centres have been appointed by the state government as Selangor Health Dialysis Panel members with an allocation of RM1.5 million a year.

The Exco for Health, Welfare, Family and Women’s Affairs, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that the strategic move is aimed at helping kidney patients who cannot afford treatment to get regular treatment.

She said that the selection process is done by the state government and the State Health Department to ensure that all selected centres comply with all the requirements and standards of the Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH).

“The State Executive Council (MMKN), in March, approved to conduct strategic cooperation with private dialysis centres.

“The implementation strategy is seen as more effective, easy and has high-impact compared to the state government creating and managing its own dialysis centres,” he said.

She said this to reporters after the launch of the Selangor Health Dialysis Panel Launching Ceremony in Renelteam Dialysis Centre.

Also present was the Mayor of the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain.

Daroyah said that previously the state government implemented the People’s Dialysis Centre (PDR) that is operating under an entity, Gedung Penawar Sdn Bhd.

However, he added that the existing PDR only has 36 machines and able to provide treatment to 112 patients in 2014.

“In 2014, there were 149 Private Dialysis Centres operating in the state.

“Of the total, 105 Private Dialysis Centres have valid licences from the MOH,” he said.
