MARRIS: State does not owe Federal Government credit

BY LIZAWATI MADFA

SHAH ALAM, NOV 1: Provisions for the Malaysian Road Records Information System (MARRIS) is the Federal Government’s duty to the State Government.

Infrastructure, Public Amenities and Agro-based Industry Exco Zaidy Abdul Talib said that it is stated in the National Constitution under Article 109 Federal Constitution.

He said that because of that, the State Government does not owe credit to the Federal Government.

“Yesterday, Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato ‘Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali already announced Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contribution of 22.6% to the Selangor Federation.

“So maybe, if you want to put up a signboard, put up the Smart Selangor signboard,” he said at the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) on November 1.

Earlier, State Council (ADUN) of Dengkil, Shahrum Mohd Sharif via a supplementary question, had asked whether the State Government agreed that the signboard ‘ownership’ be placed at the MARRIS road.

He said that it was derived by the provisions obtained from the Federal Government to be implemented in Selangor.

Replying to another question, Zaidy said that the State Government has estimated a surplus of RM21 million allocations for MARRIS next year.

“We managed to observe the village’s road and also to register 1,400 kilometres under MARRIS,” he said.
