Shah Alam, Dec 2nd: DAP and PAS has received well the efforts of PKR to cut 20% of the raise in the salaries of Selangor State Assembly Members that will go towards the Justice for Anak Selangor Education Fund.
DAP Deputy Secretary of State Ng Suee Lim says that she respects the initiative and is willing to cooperate if her party decides to follow suit.
However, she stresses that these initiatives rely on the highest leadership and she will acquiesce to any decision that is made.
“I respect PKR’s decision to implement these changes but every party has a method to deal with different issues. We are bound to the decision of the highest leadership and for now, nothing has been decided.”
“However, DAP State Assembly Members has from time to time contributed to the needs of the poor from their own personal or party capacity because we believe in the meaning and benefits of charity and charitable causes,” Suee Lim adds after upon being contacted today for a comment.
Also State Representative of Sekinchan, she commends that all PR State Assembly Members focus on their constituencies, especially in improving the standard of service as the issue of raising their salaries has already been passed.
PAS State Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rani Osman said that PAS had already put it to practice since 2008 where 30% of their monthly salaries had been directed towards social charities.
“20% of the contributions went towards the State charities whereas 10% went towards our respective constituencies. PKR’s initiative is commendable in helping the people of the country,” she says.
Recently Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim announced that the increase in allowance is reflected in their total salaries, making the rate RM11,250 for members, RM15,750 for the Deputy Speaker, RM22,500 for the Speaker, RM20,250 for the Exco and RM29,250 for the Chief Minister.
PKR Chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim requires every PKR State Assembly Member to contribute RM1,000 or 20% of their raise towards social causes.
