Second SAMM Relief Mission Leaves for the East Coast

SHAH ALAM, 5 Dec: Youth Solidarity Malaysia (SAMM) launched a mission to reduce the burden of flood victims in several states in the east coast after sending a relief mission team late last night.

The Propaganda Director of SAMM, Edy Noor Reduan, said that they encourage the public to give aid contributions to flood victims, especially in Kuantan.

“SAMM urges the public to be willing to give a small contribution, which can be afforded, because our brothers in Kuantan urgently need your help.

“Among the assistance that can be donated are canned food, used clothing, blankets, disposable diapers and basic needs,” he said in a statement today.

He said that the second mission will leave in a three-ton truck from Cheras to Kuantan, starting at 6.30pm today.

The public can send their contributions to Lot 7, Jalan 16, Kampung Cheras Baru or contact the aid mission coordinator, Ilyana Rosli at 019-2314161 or Sani Md Shah (012-9781707).

SAMM also welcomes financial contributions which can be directed to the Maybank account of Youth Solidarity Malaysia at account number 5550 4111 3224 (please send note via sms to 012-6937908, or through the Maybank account of Azri Fauzir Mazlan 162021033077 (please send note via sms to 019-2314161).

At the same time, Edy saw the rejection of the emergency motion by Member of Parliament (MP) for Kuantan, Fuziah Salleh, to declare Kuantan in a state of emergency as animalistic in nature.

“What can be done when the people of Kuantan choose Pakatan Rakyat (PR) is like punishment and is it because it was prompted by a Member of Parliament from the Opposition, therefore the motion was not eligible to be given way to.

“The proposal also received support from government MPs, however because of ego and arrogance, humanity is side-lined to a point there were Members of Parliament who quipped at the earnest desire,” he said.

Yesterday, Fuziah brought up the motion asking for Kuantan to be declared a state of emergency due to the severe floods that hit the city, which is described as the worst in history.

The motion was made fun of by the Member of Parliament for Kinabatangan, Bung Mokhtar, who then stood to intervene and urged for Fuziah to be allowed to return to Kuantan to look into the her area which was flooding.

The action prompted Zuraida Kamarudin (PKR-Ampang), Khalid Samad (PAS-Shah Alam) and Datuk Fauzi Abdul Rahman (PKR-Indera Mahkota) to stand and lash out at Bung Mokhtar.
