PETALING JAYA, 17 Dec: Today, the PKR Strategy Director, Rafizi Ramli, welcomed the offer by Attorney General, Tan Sri Gani Patail, who asked him to check all accounts owned by him from the country and abroad.
Rafizi said, to ensure that the whole checking process of Gani Patail’s financial status goes smoothly, fairly and transparently, he will send an official letter containing the details of Gani Patail’s permission today.
“The permission needs to contain him identification information as well as all his close relatives, such as his wife, children and in-laws, his permission letter to the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) for permission to hand me information about companies owned by him and his close relatives who have shares in Malaysia.
“The permission letter to Bank Negara Malaysia and the authorities to hand over information about bank accounts owned by him and his close family with banking information of every account from January 2005 till December 2010, the time period before and after the Batu Putih case,” Rafizi said in a PKR press conference which was held at the headquarters today.
Rafizi, in his letter, will also ask of a permission letter from Gani to be submitted to the authorities in Hong Kong that is responsible with company registration and the authorities in overseeing the banking industry, to hand over all information needed at the same time.
If the move is not met by Gani, it will bring about questions as to whether there is something that he is trying to hide from the knowledge of authorities and the public.
“If he flip-flops by only agreeing to give access to certain accounts only, it will raise many questions. Investigations should be conducted thoroughly and not only on one or two accounts chosen, when there are other accounts.
“Apart from that, questions will raise about why he did not offer the same things to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). Is it because if it is the MACC, he cannot choose which accounts he is to provide, since the MACC can access all accounts,” he added.
Rafizi added that if investigations on Gani Patail’s accounts result in no balance or large transactions that happened within the period mentioned, famous lawyer, Tan Sri Shafee Abdullah, needs to apologise to Gani Patail.
This is for linking him to bribery as contained in the Statutory Declaration of the former Chief of the Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department, Datuk Mat Zin Ibrahim.
Previously, Gani Patail openly welcomed Rafizi to obtain a letter of permission from him to look into all his accounts from the country and abroad to prove that there are no elements of corruption when he handled the Pulau Batu Putih claim case between Malaysia and Singapore.
During the hearing at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Singapore was given the ownership of the island after the Malaysian delegation, led by Gani and the Head of Law, was said to fail in providing strong evidence and arguments during the hearing.
