Selangor Partners with Nestle to Increase Agricultural Production

SABAK BERNAM, 23 Dec: The Selangor Government, through the Rural Development Committee, will work together with the Swiss company, nestle, to maximise the yield of the agricultural sector in the state.

The Executive Councillor in charge of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sallehen Mukhyi, said that selecting Nestle was done following the success of the company, as a food manufacturer, in receiving high profits despite farming on just 10 hectares of land.

What is more interesting, he said, is the results of Nestle, where only 20 percent is required to meet the needs of the country while the rest is exported.

“Nestle’s income is equal to that received from the combined income of Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.

“We will share how Nestle manages the networking of villagers so that they can understand and apply it in their enterprises.

“So, local enterprises will not waste even an inch of land owned to yield good results,” said Sallehen.

He said this while delivering a speech at the Sabak Bernam Mini Agrofest event.

In the meantime, Sallehen said that the State Government does not intend to allow any new land to be explored as agricultural land to preserve the ecological balance.

“However, there is still much agricultural land that has not been cultivates, whether owned by the government or an individual.

“We ask for the department of agriculture to look into these lands to determine which programmes can be implemented, according to the suitability of the soil,” Sallehen said.

He added that although not providing a great contribution, small lands are also important to be worked on to obtain a side income, even more so when facing next year.

“In 2014, the people will be facing a time of hardships, with various increases in price of goods, including daily necessities, tax and so on.

“So enterprising this land, especially for village communities, can create an economy through agricultural programmes,” he added.
