In an update on Twitter, he said that he is confident that crude attempts to stifle free speech by the Ministry of Home Affairs will fail to diffuse the ‘flame of freedom’ brought about by the newspaper.

“Such crude attempts to stifle free speech will fail to diffuse the heat. The flame of freedom cannot be easily extinguished,” he Tweeted.

Prior to this, the former Chief Editor of the New Straits Times Press Berhad Group, Datuk A Kadir Jasin, said that the suspension by the Federal Government is in violation of the pledge made by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, to establish press freedom in this country.

He said that the Ministry of Home Affairs, perhaps, forgot that Najib Razak made such a promise which was plastered on the 1Malaysia official website.

The Gerakan Media Marah or Angry Media Movement in English (GERAMM) also urged media practitioners to wear red on Friday as a symbol of solidarity in protest of the BN Government’s suspension of The Heat.

The group wants to hold a campaign on Twitter, a social media site, for an hour a day from Monday by using the hashtag #the heat from 9.30 pm.
