BN Makes Slanderous Allegation that 2014 New Year’s Eve Assembly is to Overthrow the Government

SHAH ALAM, 23 Dec: A huge assembly which will be held on the 2014 New Year’s Eve at Dataran Merdeka is not to overthrow the government as claimed by the BN Government and the mainstream media.

The Member of Parliament for Shah Alam, Khalid Samad, said that the People’s 2014 New Year’s Eve Protest assembly organised by various non-governmental organisations (NGO) is held to protest against the rising cost of living which is soaring due to the BN Government’s move to increase the price of necessary goods and services.

“It is being held to protest against the rising cost of living due to the policies introduced by the Federal Government. It has nothing to do with efforts to overthrow the government by force.

“This is a terrible slander by the Barisan Nasional (BN) Government and their supporters, through media under their control, to give a negative perception of the assembly,” said Khalid in a press conference which was held at the Shah Alam Member of Parliament’s Office here in Section 13 today.

Khalid said that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) will stick to the democratic process despite knowing that the electoral process in this country is carried out by a variety of fraud Barisan Nasional’s (BN) victory.

“The election is our only choice because we fear that a change in government that comes out of something other than the elections will cause chaos.

“We want a smooth and seamless transition, like which happened in Selangor, Penang, Kelantan and Kedah, when it is proven that PR won in the election,” he said.

Khalid said that the right to assembly is a policy which must be protected because it is enshrined in the constitution and is a part of the democratic process.

“The assembly can be avoided if the BN Government prioritises the people’s welfare when formulating a new policy,” added Khalid.
