SHAH ALAM, 24 Dec: A study conducted by the University of Malaya Centre for Democracy and Elections (UMCEDEL) found that 52 percent of respondents are not confident that the 1Malaysia People’s Assistance (BR1M) by the Federal Government can reduce the cost of living.
The study which involved 1,676 respondents also found that 55 percent of them do not believe that the Budget 2014 announced by the Federal Government is able to reduce the cost of living.
Meanwhile, 61 percent of respondents do not agree that the move by the Federal Government to reduce sugar subsidies is wise.
The study also found that voters were very worried about the increase in cost of living, including prices of goods, oil and electricity tariffs.
The UMCEDEL study, entitled Political Research Six Months After the 13th General Election, was conducted involving respondents in Peninsular Malaysia from the 6 to 8 December.
The study took into consideration the sample of respondents were from various backgrounds and done according to composition of race, age, gender, area, occupation, household income and voting status.
