SHAH ALAM, 31 Dec: The Angry Media Movement (GERAMM) has urged the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) to immediately return the weekly publication, The Heat, its publication rights.

According to the GERAMM secretariat, the MOHA’s reason that the suspension was only “temporary” cannot be used because the publication permit given to all is a right guaranteed in the Constitution and the suspension is against the spirit of freedom in the Constitution.

“After returning the publication licence to The Heat, the ministry has also been asked to not repeat such actions because it is undemocratic and anti-media freedom to any publication.

“The spirit of media freedom is not only pursued by GERAMM, journalists and non-governmental organisation (NGO) activists, but it is also emphasised by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak,” they said in a press statement today.

“GERAMM also asks for cooperation from the police and the authorities to facilitate the running of the Red Pencil Protest do that it carries out smoothly and peacefully,” they said.
