SHAH ALAM, 1 Jan: The move by the Singaporean Government of reducing the electricity tariff rate in the republic country clearly proves that they are more attentive and sensible in prioritising the interests of the people.
The Coordinator for Jingga 13, Fariz Musa, said that the opposite is happening in Malaysia when Putrajaya leans towards increasing the price of goods and services, including electricity tariffs.
“This proves that Singapore is more sensible in prioritising the people. Unlike Malaysia, if left alone would increase the cost of goods.
“This shows that Singapore better understands the sentiments of the people,” Fariz told to Selangor Kini.
Effective 1 January 2014, Peninsular Malaysia will witness an increase in electricity tariffs by 14.98 percent or 4.99 cents to 38.53 cents per kWh and five cents for Sabah and Labuan.
This consecutive increases have added to the burden of the people, who will face a ‘dark year’ since prior to this, they are faced by the increase in price of oil, sugar, public services fares and also the Astro bill.
This is unlike Singapore, where the tariff rate will be reduced by an average of 1.7 percent or 0.43 cents per kWh in the next three months.
The tariff reduction is due to the lower cost of natural gas used for electricity generation, which dropped by 2.6 percent from the previous quarter.
The electricity tariff for households will be reduced by 26,08-25,65 cents per kWh in the first quarter of 2014. The average monthly electricity bill for families living in four-room HDB flats will drop by $1.65.
Fariz added that this comparison will certainly continue with superficial statements by ministers and BN supporters through grounds of ‘if you do not like to stay in Malaysia, please move to another country’.
Obviously, the migrating statement will be highlighted by immature groups when attempting to give strong arguments to answer the question of rising prices.
“Malaysian will continue to be pressed with the increase in price of goods and certainly, various forms of increases will follow to continue to oppress the people,” he said.
