SHAH ALAM, 2 Jan: The police apology of uploading a picture of an injured member during the Turun Assembly on 31 December is not enough in providing a reasonable explanation to the public.
The PKR Communications Director, Fahmi Fadzil, said that the negligence is inappropriate because it gives a bad perception to the people about the truth of what happened.
“Matters like should be taken seriously, the police, as the authorities in the country, cannot allow for unauthentic news to be spread.
“Because it is not authentic, and its authenticity has not been verified before being spread, it is the same as spreading false news,” he said when met by Selangor Kini today.
Fahmi said this when commenting on the statement by the police on their social page titled ‘Error: Error in Uploading Injured Policeman’.
The Police Facebook page issued an apology regarding an error in uploading a picture of a policeman who was injured while on duty last night during the celebration yesterday.
The police, in a statement, said that they had no intention of clouding the situation and acknowledged their weakness on the official social networking site of the security force.
However, the picture of the policeman who was allegedly injured was deleted before an apology was issued on the social media page.
He said that such errors clearly make the police seem like a body that is not free and is influenced by a partisan attitude.
“As a neutral body, the police do not have to show a partisan attitude. If the police took the picture from an Umno ‘cybertrooper’, we need to ask the police.
“Is this a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) commonly done by the police on social media sites? If it is, is it in accordance with international standards because it affects the neutral status of the police,” he added.
