PUCHONG, 6 Jan: The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, questioned the stand of the Perak Mufti, Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria, when the Malaysians are burdened by various increases in price of goods and services.
“When the rich are robbed and oppress the people, you keep silent. When the people are oppressed at the bottom, you insult. Who actually are you representing?
“This is not fair. You should the explanation from those who came to demonstrate before passing judgement,” he said, quoted from Keadilan Daily, during a speech on ‘The Asian Renaissance’ at the Centre for Reform Democracy and Social Initiatives yesterday.
Anwar said that Harussani is impetuous and excessive in accusing participants of the assembly, who objected to the increase in price on the eve of the 2014 New Year at Dataran Merdeka, as being ‘bughah’ (rebels) and that it is halal (lawful) for them to be killed.
“Although this is the Mufti’s personal opinion, but he needs to remember that it is excessive.
“The problem of people being killed in Egypt and Syria is due to such opinions. It is very dangerous,” he said.
At the same time, Anwar said that the statement would bring about a negative perception from non-Muslims.
“To pass such judgement, he should refer to the Fatwa and Ulama Council; discuss properly especially in this ‘bughah’ issue.
“We should take the approach of delivering it well, not punishing. The issue causes confusion among Muslims and hatred among non-Muslims,” he said.
