Allegedly Issuing Insensitive Statement, Threats to Kill Selangor Speaker

SHAH ALAM, 7 Jan: Due to allegedly uttering an insensitive statement regarding a widely spread picture of pregnant woman who was sitting cross-legged on the light rapid transit (LRT), the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) Speaker, Hannah Yeoh, was criticised by pro-Umno bloggers.

Hannah was also criticised on the Facebook page of “Anti Semua Salah Umno (ASSU)”, which also said that the Subang Jaya Assemblywoman was insensitive and racist.

She also received death threats from a user of the social networking site; quoted as saying “Jom cari hannah ni…bunuh dia” (Let’s find Hannah…kill her).

Commenting on the allegations, Hannah said that she became aware of the incident after being informed by the public on 4 January.

“Some people told me via Twitter, by asking if I did make the statement. I denied the matter but it was still spread by bloggers.

“Not just that. I understand that it was displayed on Facebook,” she said when contacted by Selangor Kini today.

She said the irresponsible action has deliberately been raised to play the race card in order to create hatred and misunderstanding among the public.

She said that the incident was following the dissemination of an email linking the Pandan Member of Parliament, Rafizi Ramli, of allegedly placing explosives in the city on New Year’s Eve.

“I have made a police report this morning and I hope investigation will immediately be conducted against individuals responsible, because it is a serious matter. These individuals will continue inventing stories so that the public will believe in the lies,” she said.
