Flood Assistance, People of Kuantan Continue to be Marginalised

SHAH ALAM, 17 Dec: The Federal Government continues to ‘marginalise’ flood victims in Kuantan in the distribution of RM500 in aid and other essential goods as previously announced by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Member of Parliament for Kuantan, Fuziah Salleh, said that although Pahang experienced the second wave of flooding this year, but the aid which should have been distributed to the people has failed to be implemented.

What is more misleading is that the National Security Council (NSC) reported that they have not received the list of flood victims in Kuantan, but the Welfare Department (JKM) has confirmed that they have received the list of names on 26 December.

“The fate of the people of Kuantan, the state of the Prime Minister, seems to be side-lined.

“These two statements are different and conflicting, and the people are the victims. One of them must be lying and they would have to answer later on in the presence of Allah,” she said on his Facebook page.

He said that there is the possibility that the assistance has deliberately not been distributed fairly and transparently to the people because Kuantan is administered by Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

She said that over 19,205 flood victims in Terengganu have received RM2000 in aid from the Federal and State Governments, including other necessities such as electrical goods worth RM5000.

“All flood victims in Terengganu received assistance in the form of cash, 32” LED televisions, two-door refrigerators, stoves, mattresses and pillows worth RM5000.

“Flood victims in Sungai Isap, Kuantan, only received the 1Malaysia mattresses from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and not government agencies,” she said.
