Kajang By-Election: Guan Eng Supports Anwar’s Nomination

SHAH ALAM, 30 Jan: The Chief Minister of Penang, Lim Guan Eng, said that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) supports the Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in contesting in the Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) by-election.

“We do not know what happened which led to the former Kajang Assemblyman, Lee Chin Cheh’s resignation. But after meeting with PR leaders in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, we agree for Anwar to contest in the by-election,” he said, quoted from Malaysia Kini in a press conference in Penang yesterday.

Yesterday, Lim said that he had not been officially informed about the developments in the Selangor PKR which led to Chin Cheh vacating his seat to pave the way for the by-election to be held.

Lim, who is also the DAP Secretary-General, said this before rushing to Kuala Lumpur to attend a meeting.

Lim’s statement was made after the Selangor DAP Chief, Tony Pua, expressed support for Anwar, while the Kajang PAS Youth warned that there may be a boycott for the by-election which would be called in six months.

The Selangor PKR Chief, Azmin Ali, previously said that Chin Cheh’s resignation was a ‘tactical measure’ to build momentum towards the Sarawak Election and the 14th General Election (GE14) which will be held as early as 2016.
