Kajang By-Election: EC Should Slam Umno-BN’s Plans to Use Despicable, Obscene Tactics

SHAH ALAM, 3 Feb: The Election Commission (EC) should slam Umno-BN plans to use despicable and obscene tactics in the Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) by-election.

The PKR Vice President, N Surendran, said that the EC Chairman should not compromise and be proactive in defending the integrity of the electoral process because it is their obligation to do so under Article 113 of the Federal Constitution.

He said that failing to do so would prove that the EC is a ‘toothless tiger’ and is biases, and in fact favours BN.

“This move by Umno is unethical, dirty and desperate to accuse Anwar and Pakatan Rakyat in the by-election,” he said in a statement.

He said that Umno’s plans to conduct a ‘sex and dirty’ campaign cannot be underestimated and Datuk Seri Najib Razak, as the President of Umno, is responsible for Umno-BN’s dirty campaign methods.

He said that Najib should not allow such disgusting campaigning methods to be used by his political party, as the Prime Minister.

“Previously, Umno had openly announced to conduct a ‘se and dirty’ campaign against its political rival,” he said.

“Umno still does not realise the moral offence committed in the election campaign since 1998. Umno plans to use the charges against Anwar to cheat and mislead voters in the Kajang by-election.

“Umno is taking shortcuts in politics because they are afraid of the impact of rising prices and corruption within BN itself,” he said.
