CM Uses Money Out of Own Pocket, Does Not Use State Reserves for Kajang By-Election

SHAH ALAM, 7 Feb: The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, denied allegations by some quarters saying that state reserves are to be used in the Kajang by-election.

Instead, Abdul Khalid stressed that he is using his own money to launch a campaign for the by-election.

He said that those who are not satisfied can appoint certain agencies to investigate the validity of the matter.

“You can call on an independent body to monitor. We have transparency in administration, such as the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES) programme, which I believe that the central government also has a programme like it. So, if we use the money for other purposes, they can investigate.

“State funds are not being used to help the by-election. I am giving my own money, not the state’s. If we use public funds, this would mean that we are not concerned for the people,” he said in a press statement after the launching of the Wanita Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) machinery at Taman Koperasi Cuepecs yesterday.

He said that the PKR machinery is preparing to fight in the by-election and is confident that Kajang voters can assess the state leadership over the past few years.

“I believe that Kajang voters know about the state government because we have a variety of MES programmes. This proves that the state government is very attentive to the welfare of the people, in addition to providing the best development for the people of Selangor,” he said.

Meanwhile, Abdul Khalid, who is also the Kajang by-election Director, said that he will call each Pakatan Rakyat (PR) component party to help in the by-election campaign.

“We want to call all, not just from PKR and DAP. We want all leaders from Sabah and Sarawak to help us so that they have experience. I think that next year there will be the election in Sarawak and we will use the opportunity in Kajang to assist them there,” he said.
